Awarded Amount: $47,806.00
Impact Areas: Climate Resilience & Connection & Wellbeing
During the 2019/2020 bushfires, the Towong Soldiers Memorial Hall served as a vital relief centre. Today, it’s a place to gather, celebrate, socialise and bring the community back together.
The ‘Our Place’ Towong Soldiers Memorial Hall ‘Fit Out’ Project aimed to revitalise the hall, making it a welcoming and functional space for all. With new furniture, cutlery, crockery, appliances and outdoor shade protection, the hall will be able to host a variety of community events, including breakfast gatherings, craft days, and playtime for parents and children.
In the event of future disasters, the hall is designed to serve as a central “hub,” providing a safe space where residents can gather, prepare meals, shower and access crucial information and support.
The Upper Murray Innovation Foundation received a grant through Round 6 of the Towong Community Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund for the Towong Soldiers Memorial Hall Fit-Out project.
