Out and About – Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare

News

Foodshare has been providing emergency food relief to people within our region for many years – a quiet achiever run predominantly by a team of 100+ volunteers.

As the 2020 bushfire crisis emerged, Foodshare was part of the relief effort from day one, stepping into a pivotal role providing food, water and other supplies to affected communities.

We recently headed to the warehouse in Wodonga to talk to Manager Peter Matthews about the $5000 grant provided within Round 1 of our Bushfire Relief Fund Grant Program.

As always, the two warehouses were busy with volunteers coordinating distributions of food to welfare agencies and hampers directly to individuals who are experiencing short-term need.  One of the Foodshare vans then arrived with supplies from their food partners, ready to be sorted for future distribution.

The grant received by Foodshare has enabled them to purchase additional food for areas like Corryong in the Towong Shire where recovery will take time.  This may include protein or other items that are not always readily available in the required quantities.

We captured the visit with a video chat between our EO Glenys Atkins & Foodshare’s Peter Matthews, which can be found Border Trust: Community Foundation Albury Wodonga Region | Facebook
