Celebrating 15 Years with Hume Bank

News

There was so much to celebrate at this year’s Big Give & it doesn’t get much bigger than celebrating our 15 year Foundation Builder relationship with Hume Bank.

We thank Hume Bank for not only sticking with us, but for valuing our role in the community and for working with us to strengthen our relationship.

Our Chair Ashley Boyd had this to say on the night:

“Tonight we are celebrating 15 Years with our inaugural & longest standing Foundation Builder – Hume Bank.

It is well before my time, but there are people here tonight who were part of the very first meeting with the then Hume Building Society, back in 2006.

Members of the inaugural Board approached Hume, as a trusted local institution,  to talk about this new foundation that had been established to support local people : Community Foundation for Albury Wodonga Region, now known as Border Trust.

With just $5000 seed funding from Philanthropy Australia, we had big plans and dreams about what could be achieved, but we needed help to get started.

From the very first conversation, it was clear our values and region aligned.

Hume was impressed by the potential that existed and wanted to be a part of the journey.

With little more than a stapler to our name, Hume set about providing us with an office space to operate from.

This has given us the ability to focus on our core charitable purpose & to empower local people to shape the future of their community.

Over the years, the in-kind provision of office space has been supplemented by

  • contributions to our operational costs, individual events and campaigns like the Back to School Program & On the Couch
  • in-branch promotion of campaigns such as the Bushfire Relief Fund and Local Giving Month
  • network introductions
  • supportive working relationship with Hume staff

Without operational capacity, Border Trust wouldn’t exist.  We rely on Foundation Builder’s to help us grow.

We thank Hume Bank for not only sticking with us, but for valuing our role in the community and for working with us to strengthen our relationship”.
