Border Trust partners with Hume Bank to support local students

The start of the 2022 school year will be just that little bit easier for many local students and families with the announcement that Border Trust has partnered with Hume Bank to deliver the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) Back to School Program.

The program provides $50 vouchers to students experiencing disadvantage to help meet the costs of a new school year.  “Border Trust has been the local mechanism for this national program for 16 years with vouchers valued at $522,500 making their way directly to those who need a helping hand”, said Glenys Atkins, Border Trust’s Executive Officer.

Acknowledging that more families than ever are experiencing disadvantage, the 2022 Back to School Program has commenced with a fundraising challenge “Every $50 raised between now and the end of November is likely to be matched by FRRR, doubling the number of students that will be able to start their year with more of what they need”.

The Chief Executive Officer of Hume Bank, Stephen Capello said that “Hume Bank is proud to be the major local sponsor of this initiative. Education is the foundation of every child’s future and each child should be afforded equal opportunity to realise all the benefits that education can bring them. We all know $50 does not go far, but for families that may be struggling, a pair of new shoes, school bag, hat or stationery will go a long way in putting a smile on a student’s face at the start of the year”.

“On behalf of Hume Bank customers, we will donate $2,500.00 to this challenge so that if matched, this will support an additional 100 local students and families. We encourage local businesses and the broader community to get behind and support this fantastic program”, said Mr Capello.
