Supporting local people to address local issues
What is a Community Foundation?
Community Foundations make it easy for anyone to support local causes and create real, positive change. They are bound by a geographic area, ensuring that all donations stay local, for the benefit of local people.
A Community Foundation is an independent organisation, managed by local people to meet the needs of their communities. It’s a charitable fund that enables local donors, no matter how big or small, to help others in the community during times of need.
Our communities have needs that cannot be met by traditional funding sources
Border Trust encourages individuals, families, businesses and other organisations to make donations to meet these needs, now and in the future.
Our purpose is to enable local people to shape the future of their community by directing resources (money, time and talent) to support worthwhile local initiatives.
Legal structure
Border Trust is a company limited by guarantee, which is a charitable organisation. It is the Trustee of a charitable trust (known as a public ancillary fund) and the Towonga Community Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund. Donations to the public fund are tax deductible.
Border Trust is fully transparent and accountable to the community through external audits and community consultations.
Who We Support
Border Trust supports community groups and not for profits in the cities of Albury and Wodonga, and the Indigo, Towong, Greater Hume and Federation Shires. We focus on five key impact areas where community need is the greatest.
Twenty Years of Local Giving
Since 2004, Border Trust has worked to promote and support a resourceful and generous community by encouraging and enabling philanthropy.
We continue to build a permanent endowment for the long-term benefit of the local community.
During this time we’ve distributed more than $4 million into our local region from more than 300 generous local donors to fund 360 (and counting) life-changing programs.
Donors and Supporters
We couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of our local donors and supporters. There are many ways to support Border Trust, either as a Foundation Builder, setting up a Named Sub-Fund, fundraising on our behalf or contributing to a specific initiative, like Give500 – there’s an easy way to help us make a lasting impact.
