RESCARE INC

Background information

Rescare Inc (Rescare) ABN 28 734 230 639 was formed in 1984 with the purpose of raising funds to support families and carers with a family member with a disability living at home.

The aim was to establish a community based respite facility in Wodonga assisted by State Government funding. In 1987 during the implementation of a statewide plan to close institutions in Victoria, the government funded Rescare to manage two community based houses in Wodonga for people with disabilities.

A long-term residence was set up to provide accommodation for four people relocating from the May Day Hills Institution in Beechworth. The second house provided respite care for people with disabilities, families and carers.
The community houses were managed by Rescare from 1987-1993 when the state government elected to resume the management of facilities for people with disabilities effectively releasing most not for profit organisations such as Rescare of this responsibility.

Rescare subsequently purchased a rural property at Leneva, Victoria which was developed to provide day programs for people with disabilities in a farm setting. Rescare sold the property in 2012 due to the progress of land development in the area.

Present Day
Rescare Inc is now offering funding for families and carers who have a family member with a disability living at home.
Funding will have a specific focus on:
• support to access a variety of respite options for carers with a family member with a disability living at home; and
• equipment purchases which will support the family to better care for their family member with a disability living at home.
Funding is available to carers who reside with a family member with a disability in the Albury Wodonga and surrounding areas.

The funding is available on a continuous basis and applications can be submitted at any time. Please download guidelines outlining eligibility, funding process and the application form or contact rescare@iprimus.com.au for further information.
