COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS INITIATIVE – Supporting Community Philanthropy
AUGUST 2012

Border Trust raises $100,000 to meet the Community Foundations Initiative Challenge.
Border Trust gratefully acknowledges the support of the Victorian State Government’s Department of Planning and Community Development for their valuable contribution to our regional communities.

In August 2012 Border Trust was awarded $200,000 as part of this initiative following Border Trust’s success in raising $100,000 locally to meet the Community Foundation Challenge.
In June 2011 Border Trust was granted $100,000 as part of the Community Foundations Initiative. In addition, the department offered an additional $200,000 in funds if the Border Trust was able to raised $100,000 locally.
Border Trust, with support from individuals, businesses and community organisations met that “Challenge” and celebrated this success at a special event on 22 August 2012.

The Hon. Damian Drum MP, Member for Northern Victoria Region and Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development representing the Hon. Peter Ryan MP, Minister for Regional and Rural Development, announced Border Trust’s success in meeting the challenge set by the Government’s Community Foundation Initiative. The Government initiative is committed to supporting local Community Foundations and the work they do to support the not-for-profit community sector.

The fund, totalling $300,000 will be held by Border Trust, and the Victorian local government areas of  Alpine, Indigo, Towong and Wodonga, will benefit from intersest on the funds distributed via the Border Trust annual Grants Program.

This innitiative recognises the value of community foundations in making much needed funds available at a local level. The initiative has ensured community philanthropy is sustained in the local region.
