Applying for grants : General Information for Grant Seekers |
Our Mission
The mission of Border Trust – the Community Foundation for the Albury Wodonga region is to promote and build a resourceful and sharing community by encouraging and enabling local philanthropy.
Grant Making Criteria
Border Trust – the Community Foundation for the Albury Wodonga Region will respond to the needs of the local community by making grants to eligible organisations for innovative projects which reflect its mission and aims and seek to improve the quality of life of the residents of the region. Under normal circumstances grants of between $500 and $2,500 will be applied each grant round.
Border Trust welcomes partnering opportunities and encourages applicants to seek funding from a range of sources.
Generally, the Foundation is likely to fund innovative projects which grow and strengthen communities, especially those which may not meet the requirements for funding from other sources. All projects funded must be delivered by, or through, groups with the necessary ATO status to receive funds from a Public Ancillary Fund, namely Income Tax Exempt Charity and Deductible Gift Recipient.
For information regarding Tax Status definitions refer to:

You may wish to contact Border Trust to discuss your eligibility in this regard.
In accordance with ATO guidelines we are unable to fund:
· Recreational or commercial sporting activities;
· Projects for private or personal benefit;
· Projects undertaken by groups who do not have the required ITEC/DGR status or are not underwritten by a suitable host organisation;
· Capital/infrastructure costs i.e. anything for which depreciation is claimed through the ATO;
· Wages and salaries;
· Projects in successive years.
THERE ARE TWO STEPS TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP 1. EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (form available below)
An ‘Expression of Interest’ form must be completed and submitted for consideration by the closing time/date. This is a one-page overview of your project and funding request and can be emailed or posted. If your funding request appears to meet the guidelines, you will be contacted by telephone and in writing inviting completion of the formal application form (Step 2).
Should your funding request not meet the guidelines, you will be advised in writing.
A Border Trust representative may contact you to discuss alternate funding options for your project.
In accordance with ATO requirements and in order to proceed to the next step it is imperative that suitable ITE and Item 1 DGR status is established at this point. Please ensure that the ABN field is completed. If your organization lacks this status it is possible for another organization to auspice or host the grant on your behalf should the project be successful.

How you will know the outcome:
· If you are awarded a grant you will be advised by telephone/email and in writing.
· If your submission is unsuccessful we will advise you in writing.
Border Trust will not be in a position to fund every application received and it is important to state that an unsuccessful application does not reflect the value of the project. At times, very worthwhile projects may not receive approval subject to a number of variables which must be taken into consideration. We are pleased to discuss any aspect of the process with you and will endeavour to offer other alternatives for your consideration in this regard.
Even if you are advised that your application is unsuccessful it may be submitted again for consideration in a subsequent grant round. In this case, please make contact with the Executive Officer to discuss the details.
If your application is successful you will be required to acquit your project in accordance with the terms and conditions of acceptance within 2 months of completion of the project.
